On October 10, 2004, Rachel Silverman and Jacob Sommer got married, three years and 363 days after their first date. It is a consummation of a loving relationship that has already lived through several crises and stayed more wonderful than any long-term, live-in relationship that either had been in before.
We thought about getting married several times, and got stuck in the planning stages. But when the Supreme Judicial Court state of Massachusetts, where we live, declared that same-sex couples must be allowed to marry, we were overjoyed; not just because so many of our friends would be allowed equal rights, but because everyone would, at least in this state. We hope that the state of Massachusetts will be only the first to realize that the institution of marriage is strengthened, not weakened, when all loving couples can choose to benefit from it. And of course, we wanted to celebrate this decision in the best way possible.
We chose to keep the wedding small, and the planning and angst to a
relative minimum (in fact, most of the planning was done less than a month
before). But our marvelous photographer, Jim Leonard, took
about a
gazillion photos, and it's how we choose to bring everyone we care about
to our
wedding.

There were also several talented and avid amateurs in the bunch,
including the bride, the groom's sister, the groom's father, and the
bride's uncle. But we haven't seen all the pictures yet; only
Rachel's are on the site so far, with Debby's to follow when the
scanner is working.
